Birth In Power: Childbirth Ed. for the Modern Parent

Returning Sovereign Birth to Mothers & Families

Birth In Power: Childbirth Ed. for the Modern Parent

Returning Sovereign Birth to Mothers & Families

The eight-session Birth In Power private class series will reveal to you the childbearing continuum as it has evolved over the past few hundred years to modern day - from birthing alone in our own homes to birthing in hospitals in front of entire medical teams to home again. The series explores the basics of birth and postpartum recovery, and the many ways in which these experiences can unfold for modern day mothers. Natural, undisturbed, physiologic birth is emphasized as the ideal foundational birth scenario, and the truth about how and why giving birth in a hospital (or with licensed midwives) by default is NOT exactly conducive to a safe and healthy birth experience will be explored.

If you are drawn to birthing at home or outside of the system, and want to learn the truth about birth and postpartum expansion, or if you would like to be able to support the birthing families in your life with a deeper understanding of what the physiological birthing process looks like when left undisturbed, this is the right class for you.

A mother who was born by cesarean, I personally received both OBGYN and midwifery care when pregnant with my own children; and I have birthed in the hospital and at home both with medical attendants and without, both with an epidural and without. I have attended hospital, cesarean, birth center, and midwife-supported home births as a birth doula, and I have mentored freebirthing mothers as to how to prepare for their sovereign birth at home.

When it comes to the postpartum realm, I’ve had three unique experiences myself (both with and without doula and family support, and also on lockdown in 2020), and I have supported a variety of families in their own homes while highlighting their innate parenting wisdom.

In addition to birthing and mothering three living children, I have experienced two losses and the recoveries thereafter. As a result of all of the above, I have been blessed with the ability to both see and feel birth and motherhood from a variety of different perspectives. This makes me an excellent guide in regard to the realities of birth and postpartum versus the mistruths and cultural misunderstandings of these life experiences, which will help you in deciding where and how you wish to birth your baby.

Birth matters, and the experience of bringing forth life is truly sacred. I am here to shine a light on this truth for mothers and all who love and wish to support them during the childbearing years.

together, we will explore:

  • Birth as a rite of passage and altered state of consciousness

  • Nature’s blueprint for natural, physiologic birth to unfold perfectly for both mother and baby

Nest, Rest, & Manifest: Planning for a Nurtured Postpartum

Miraculous Mothercare for the Healing of All

Nest, Rest, & Manifest: Planning for a Nurtured Postpartum

Miraculous Mothercare for the Healing of All

This private class series focuses on the five essentials of postpartum care in addition to spiritual and mental wellness during the postpartum time. The five essentials are found throughout the world’s ancient postpartum traditions and are deeply rooted in women’s physiologic and psychologic needs postpartum, which remain unchanged despite shifts in societal behavior. Honoring these five essentials, as well as a mother’s spiritual life, inevitability helps to facilitate physiologic baby care and an intuitive bond between both members of the mamababy dyad.

These Five Essentials of Mother-Centered Postpartum Care for Family Wellness are:

  • An extended resting period. An extended resting period in the postpartum time safeguards women’s long-term pelvic health and hormonal health. The natural rhythm of Earth and of Life is that there is a period of growth and a period of rest. Pregnancy represents the period of growth, while postpartum represents the period of rest.

  • Warm in temperature, warm in nature, easy to digest, nutrient dense food. Our digestive system is profoundly altered through pregnancy and birth. Warm in temperature, warm in nature, easy to digest, nutrient dense foods in the postpartum time support the long-term health of the digestive system. As women, we grow humans inside our bodies through gestation and outside our bodies through lactation. Eating the right foods helps us to grow life without depleting ourselves.

  • Bodywork. Because we are resting in the postpartum time, it is bodywork that facilitates healing through the movement of blood and lymph. Bodywork elicits our relaxation response, allows our nervous system to down-regulate and boosts our immunity. Nature’s Law is based in reciprocity. Bodywork gives to mothers so that mothers can give freely to their babies.

  • Warmth. In birth and the postpartum period, we lose a large amount of blood. Breastmilk is made from the same substrate as blood. Mothers are babies’ primary heaters until babies are between 5-9 months of age, when they can regulate their own temperature. Warmth in the postpartum time facilitates the production of oxytocin. Oxytocin facilitates milk production. Warmth causes our tissues to expand, which facilities the moving of blood and lymph, which facilitates healing.

  • Community. The above four essentials of postpartum care are pillars, and these pillars require a strong foundation so they can stand up straight and strong. This foundation in the postpartum time is community. “Community” means people that a mother feels good and safe with, and that will be with her on a daily basis in the postpartum period. When mothers feel good and safe, they are able to give up their hyper-vigilance. This allows the nervous system to down-regulate, which allows the body‘s energy in the postpartum time go into healing, bonding, and attachment.

“Innate Traditions Postpartum Care works from the foundational understanding that: maternal health is foundational to society’s health. When mothers are healthy and well, families are healthy and well. When families are healthy and well, communities are healthy and well – and this concentric ring of wellness continues to move outward to encompass the whole of the Earth. In optimally taking care of the mothers, we are taking care of the future generations.”

series participants will receive:

  • Essential postpartum education that is comprised of time-tested postpartum wisdom interwoven with modern science in support of women’s long-term health and vitality

  • Physiologic baby care and breastfeeding wisdom

  • 16 hours of mentorship in the form of eight two-hour class sessions, as well as home study opportunities to dive deeper into the topics we cover in class

  • Compilations of my own personal favorite resources - including local health care providers, favorite postpartum recipes, baby gear recommendations, books, documentaries, podcasts, and more

  • Truthful information, helping to lead families in the right direction for an optimal postpartum period in the name of creating a solid foundation for thriving family systems

  • Insights regarding the importance of reducing/eliminating social media during the postpartum time, and replacing it with mindful, meditative, and prayerful practices that will support mother’s mental health and spiritual well being

  • The opportunity for families to create postpartum care plans tailored to their own individual needs

  • The creation and/or fortification of community

THIS series IS INTENDED FOR:

This series was designed for mothers, families, and their support people to take and complete before they reach 35 weeks gestation, allowing ample time to create a postpartum plan and create or fortify her community support before her birthing window opens.

Fathers/partners/friends/family who will be supporting mother through and after birth are strongly encouraged attend this class series with her. It is essential that mothers are not the only ones receiving this postpartum care education; those who love mothers must receive it and implement it too.

Benevolent Birthkeeping

Sovereign Birth Support for Aligned Mothers

Benevolent Birthkeeping

Sovereign Birth Support for Aligned Mothers

 What are Freebirth and Birthkeeping?

Freebirth, a term coined by visionary midwife Jeannine Parvati Baker, is an autonomous, physiological birth that proceeds spontaneously via a unique, biologically designed hormonal blueprint. It takes place at home or another intimate location, and is free of disturbances that hinder the natural unfolding of birth, such as gratuitous medical management. Most importantly, freebirth centers the mother as the authority of her experience and views mother and baby as one intricately connected being, lovingly known as the motherbaby dyad.

Birthkeeping is a way of being. It is an answer to a call to protect birth, and to show others the way toward sovereign, powerful home birth experiences without a medical attendant present. As birthkeepers, we (I work alongside a dear sister in this realm, Chandley Logsdon) have promised to protect natural, physiologic birth because we believe it is the safest and most profound way to give life and evolve into a mother. As highly sensitive women, we tune into the surrounding environment  and protect your primal space.

Our way of birthkeeping is founded in truthtelling and deep reverence for the natural world. As such, we help to educate women about the natural process of birth when left undisturbed, and we provide resources that will inform women of the ways they can most effectively care for themselves before, during, and after birth.

What You’ll Receive

Prenatal Support

  • Three prenatal sessions, which typically take place at your home or out in nature, so that we can grow closer to one another and answer any questions you may have about sovereign birth and mothering. These can be structured in a variety of ways, for example: dinners, picnics, hikes, and beach or park days.

  • On-call availability during the weeks that you expect your baby to be born

Birth Support

  • In-person or nearby (virtual/phone) support during your birthing time

  • In-person support includes an intentional holding of the sacred birthing space; extra hands to gather what’s needed and necessary according to you, the mother; general comfort measure provisions as requested; feedback, as requested; and an abundance of good energy.

  • Nearby support includes communication via video call, phone call, or text, as well as spiritual support from afar. This option is ideal for families who desire a solitary birth experience but want a knowledgeable birthkeeper available for Q&A during the birthing time.

Postpartum Support

  • Immediate postpartum nourishment, tidying, and organization.

  • Cord-care and clamping, cord-burning ceremony, or lotus birth support.

  • Guided placenta exploration and preservation (processing/freezing).

  • One in-person postpartum visit within the first two weeks after birth. We can use this visit to lead a placenta burial ceremony on your land (an experience we highly recommend).

Disclaimer: Our birthkeeping services are not medical care of any kind, nor is birthkeeping a form of professional mental health care as defined by the medical-industrial complex. Our way of birthkeeping does not constitute medical diagnoses or medical advice of any kind. If you feel called to receive medical support for your physical or mental well-being, we suggest that you reach out to a trusted healthcare provider at your discretion.

Mothercare Consult

Postpartum Wisdom for Women in Need

Every so often during the postpartum time, motherhood feels like a crisis. Perhaps breastfeeding has become a challenge, or your baby simply cannot be settled. Or, maybe you didn’t think you’d need as much help as you do, and you would like support in calling on your village ASAP.

Mothercare Consults are a perfect antidote to this type of overwhelm. Allow me to co-regulate with you and your baby while I offer suggestions, solutions, local resources, personal care recommendations, and more from my open heart. I have a wealth of both personal and professional experience in the postpartum realm, and it is always a joy for me to be able to share my knowledge with other mothers (and those who love them).

Similar to my Mothering True Mentorship offering, these sessions are held in the style of “ask me anything.” We can talk about anything and everything that you need, as often as you need, until you feel more confident about your current circumstances. Topics we can dive into include baby’s sleep habits, breastfeeding and bottle-feeding, physical healing, hormonal ups and downs, nutrition, schedules and routines, emotional and mental well-being, your relationship with your partner and family members, meal planning, returning to work, and more.

Sessions can be held in-person or virtually depending on what your situation calls for. I follow up every session with a detailed and thorough email containing links to resources and a summary of our time together.

Prayerful Postpartum

A Devotional Practice for New Mothers

It would be my honor to support you in cultivating a prayerful creative practice that will serve to anchor you during your period of matrescence and motherhood overall. Together, we will explore what it means to write your own prayers, how to make time for prayer in the midst of mothering, how to experience motherhood as an answered prayer, and more.

This offering is made up of multiple virtual sessions that will leave you with a collection of prayers and a ritual map, all of which will prepare you to engage in a daily prayer practice. Special attention is paid to reducing or eliminating social media engagement whenever you are with your baby or attempting to rest or rejuvenate on your own. It is my belief that, should we choose to replace time spent online with time spent in-mind, our realities would improve exponentially (and quite quickly too).

Birth Storykeeping

Artistic Remembrances of Birth in the Form of a Family Heirloom

Birth Storykeeping

Artistic Remembrances of Birth in the Form of a Family Heirloom

The keeping of birth stories is an act of devotion. It not only honors the baby who was born and the mother who birthed them, but it also preserves the holy wisdom of birthing for current and future generations while honoring those of the past.

Imagine having your child’s birth story written out for them to reread every year of their life into adulthood. This type of story keeping and telling serves as a regular reminder of our interconnectedness, as well as just how meaningful and purposeful our existence on this Earth is.

As a storykeeper, I see the poeticism in every moment of life — especially birth. We are meant to document more than just measurements of body size and time when our babies are born. Indeed, we are meant to weave our emotional and spiritual experiences in with the physical so as to honor birth as a moment of power, and forever be reminded of our Godspark.

Upon receiving your birth story verbally over an intimate virtual call, I will write it out for you professionally and poetically so that you can hold it tangibly as a family heirloom. The option to have your story printed is available, and all who invest in this offering will receive their text as a living document so that they can do with it what they wish in the future.

Bespoke Blessings

Tell Me Your Story, & I'll Write You a Prayer

Bespoke blessings are a unique and incredibly personal gift for yourself or another. Simply send me details re: the person and story of interest and I'll channel the prayer to match. All prayers are written in first person.

The prayer you receive will look similar to this - a neutral background color and this specific font on an 8.5 x 11 template. I will also include the text of the prayer in an email so that you can easily copy/paste for use in various capacities. The word count of a finished prayer ranges between 400-600 words depending on what's been channeled.

Your prayer, which is sent as a digital file, can be printed out on cardstock or it can be copied by hand onto the paper of your choosing (I recommend Sharpie fine tip pens on handmade watercolor paper so that you can paint them, too).

These holy words can be used to adorn an altar, enhance your existing prayer or affirmation practice, bless a loved one, decorate a wall, or catalyze the creation of your very own personalized prayer collection - the ways in which you can make use of this offering are plenty.

Writing as Ritual

A "Love of Writing" Class Series for Children

Writing as Ritual

A "Love of Writing" Class Series for Children

"Only dare use your words for three purposes: to heal, bless, or prosper."
~ Florence SCOVEL ShiNN ~

The Writing as Ritual class series for children is centered on valuing creative expression as a vital life process - no less important than breathing or sleeping. Further, this class focuses on the act of writing as a central component of creating the life we each desire to live.

Writing in a journal is a natural catalyst for birthing our many human gifts from the ethers into reality. The best aspect is that it's doable anywhere, any time, and it's always productive. It doesn't matter how "good" you are or how much you write. What matters is how engaged you are in the act itself, and the intention behind your words.

It's a process. It's a practice. It's a ritual.

Writing facilitates the slowing down of the mind when it's done by hand, and it provides a refuge for immediate release when done quickly on a notetaking app. Once writing becomes a pleasurable routine, it can be incorporated into any and every single life path a child chooses to follow. A simple journal entry can be transformed into a poem, a meme, a short story, an article, a book, a script, a resolution, or a gift. It will make their chosen career or vocation infinitely more doable, and their overall life much more intentional and of their own creation. The possibilities are abundant.

At an even deeper level, writing as ritual can also lead to a better understanding of one's Self. Putting thoughts down on paper creates a personal map of sorts; a timeline of one's growth and unfolding. A ritualistic writing practice can lead to breakthroughs, revelations, and life changing plans - and creative, honest communication is fodder for healthier relationships, too.

I believe it is important to centralize embodied creation as a fundamental life value, one that improves our health through its prioritization of joy, beauty and connection. Writing is a beautiful and doable place to start befriending one’s inner creator - and developing the skill itself serves many purposes. Beginning this practice in childhood will facilitate a secure connection between a child and their inner, intuitive, visionary voice, allowing them to have more say in the world they are a part of while also being true to themselves.

An integrated love of writing IS BENEFICIAL to all life paths a child chooses to follow.

Writing as Ritual is here to show children the blueprint of how to take ownership of their inner and outer narratives. By understanding the power of their words, how to root their words in love and authenticity, how to make their handwriting beautiful, how to share their message(s) and how to appreciate the creations of others, students will feel confident in their ability to thrive as clear and effective communicators in their community.

Reading Lessons

Expand Your Child’s World Through the Written Word

Reading is magical (and slightly psychedelic) act beloved by adults and children alike - as I’m sure you know. When a child finally learns how to read books, signs, packages, and more, their world expands and they feel more connected to their surroundings. The power they feel thanks to their newfound capability catapults them into a phase of learning that never ends. Once they know how to read, they can learn how to do anything they’d like to put their minds to.

My reading lessons follow the structure of the book titled “Teach your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons” (FYI: I am an affiliate of bookshop.org and will earn some money if you purchase the book using this link). You can also teach your child to read using this book, but if you’d like extra support, I’m your girl.

Each lesson takes about 10-15 minutes to complete, and I plan to teach two lessons at a time. This means that I can teach your child to read in 50 half-hour sessions, all of which can be scheduled flexibly. That being said, it is essential that they take place in person and that your child is a willing participant. My favorite place to meet for lessons is anywhere beautiful in nature (and the kids love it too).
